Vertical Material Lifts

Vertical Material Lift by KABTech installed in a facility

Has your facility been struggling to find clean, pain-free ways to move products between production levels? A heavy-duty vertical material lift does exactly that. By giving employees, managers, and on-site equipment a smoother way to change positions, loading configurations become that much smoother, saving time, energy, and ultimately, money.

Vertical platforms can be loaded with essential materials or equipment, such as carts, containers, or parts, and moved up and down with ease. Even if it’s a simple, lightweight pallet you need moved, use your vertical material lift to get the job done.

While it may make sense for your warehouse to install a ground-floor elevator or in-house escalator, the cost far outweighs the benefits, especially since you can get an easy-install vertical material lift by KABTech for half the price. We design these lifts to service a number of industrial applications, not limited to manufacturing, distribution, and more.

What is a Vertical Material Lift?

Vertical material lifts are steel-constructed conveyors built to load and lift heavy site materials such as boxes and machinery.

The goal of each lift is to design one that meets your building or facility’s unique specifications. Without this distinction, you might experience the opposite of your goals: a lift that doesn’t fit within the layout or operation of your facility.

The solution to overcrowded aisles and slow-moving operations? High-capacity material lifts, installed to fit the exact specifications of a warehouse, no matter the industry. With an average maximum of 300 to 800 lbs, you can surely stack what you need and lift upon a KABTech-built vertical platform lift.

KABTech Designed Vertical Material Lifts

While most lifts and vertical reciprocating conveyors incorporate high capacities, not all are reinforced with long-lasting materials built for success. At KABTech, we focus on installing portable, multifaceted material lifts that meet the requirements of national and international building codes.

And if you’re looking for an industrial installation you can easily configure to your facility’s layout, look to KABTech. Each item involved (platform, drive unit, rails) comes standard, as well as any personalizations you’d like to include pre-installation.

Key Components

Platform

Most material lifts include a flat deck or a combination of pallet platforms that act as their foundation. You’ll want to choose the size deck or pallet(s) based on what you’re wanting to move, as choosing a size too large or small can result in an uneven lift.

Choose from a steel (stainless or carbon), aluminum, or fiber-reinforced base to craft your customized platform. Whether your facility is suited for commercial use or retail storage, a strong platform is essential.

Lifting Mechanism(s)

Without one or multiple lifting mechanisms, a vertical lift can’t get off the ground. A combination of steel cables and chains, these lifting mechanisms are powered by an electric drum (drive transmission) that whirs beneath the surface.

While these mechanisms can and should lift up to hundreds of pounds, it’s important to note that cables and/or chains wear over time and will need replacement if you use them routinely. Luckily, KABTech’s material lift experts can easily remediate this issue.

Drive Unit

Think of the drive unit as the steering wheel on your lift. Behind the scenes, an electrical motor (usually AC) drives and maintains the power of the lifts, moving it at the desired speed in and around the desired locations.

Each unit includes a full control panel featuring start, stop, and emergency stop buttons for complete safety assurance.

Gates & Interlocks

Similar to security shacks, lifts incorporate gates and interlocks to keep unauthorized personnel (as well as materials) from entering the lift. When the lift is above the ground, these gates lock so that nothing can escape lift boundaries.

KABTech offers a few common gate types: swing, sliding, bi-fold, or mesh, each available for personalization upon request. Interlocks are the keys that physically block unwanted items or people from entering the lift platform. Electrical or mechanical, interlocks minimize safety concerns.

Power System(s)

The drive unit is the actual mechanism that moves power throughout the lift, while the power system(s) produce said power from the ground up. Most systems are electrical or hydraulic, and power multiple components within the lift: motors, pumps, and various control systems.

How to Use a Vertical Material Lift in Your Facility

While material lifts excel in saving floor space and time, they can be used in a number of efficiency-boasting ways, including the transportation of cartons between mezzanine levels. If you don’t use mezzanines (or other warehouse platform solutions) in your building but still want cross-level capability, you can use your lift to seamlessly move bulky items between operation floors.

Assembly line, aisle space, or inventory storage, vertical lifts can be customized to work with your space’s needs, not the latter. Use your KABTech material lift to raise and disperse essential items for any of the following industrial applications:

Retail

Most retail businesses stockpile inventory in a separate off-the-floor area, usually a dedicated room. For this reason, they need a uniform way to move said items from the stockroom back out onto the floor. Vertical lifts do what a traditional forklift does, but much more quickly and with less initial cost burden.

Food Processing & Storage

Like retail, food manufacturers or processing plants will store frozen or chilled material in a safe zone. This might be located at the back of a facility, far away from central equipment that could move these items out on the floor for sale. Vertical lifts allow you to stack and transport these items without leaving their designated area, minimizing handling and maximizing sales potential.

Automotive Facilities

Automotive facilities handle heavy, load-bearing equipment, such as engines, on a daily basis. With a quick pace, they need to move these parts through operational zones, which a vertical platform lift can do more efficiently than a traditional forklift. They’re designed to process items that exceed the standard load capacity without breaking down.

Logistics Hubs

Think of airports and other spaces where cargo or baggage is transferred. These facilities run on a high-powered sorting system, something a vertical material lift can help move along. KABTech lifts can be easily integrated with existing conveyors for even quicker transport.

Data & Utility Facilities

Delicate equipment is found on the floor of any data or utility facilities. Powered by services, batteries, and other essential equipment, these facilities need a powerful transportation tool that won’t compromise their speed. Managers can fine-tune lift movements so that they don’t damage or delay essential equipment in the process.

Configurations for Heavy Loads

For facilities that routinely require a large load capacity, note this with your material lift manufacturer. KABTech accommodates facilities that require this load type by offering height and weight adjustments that you can fit to each standard body.

Work with KABTech, and we’ll craft your unique vertical lift in-house according to the following specifications:

  • Load Requirements
  • Structural Frame Configuration
  • Load Characteristics
  • Lifting Mechanism
  • Platform & Load Interface Design
  • Power & Control System
  • Foundation
  • & Safety Systems
