Equipment Platforms
Need a frame or equipment platform to support, elevate, or protect a large piece of industrial or electrical equipment?
Equipment Platforms for Industrial and Electrical Equipment
KABTech can make the design and quote process fast and simple for you.
KABTech’s custom equipment platforms are designed as self-supporting, independent structures engineered specifically to support your equipment, operational requirements, and facility layout.
Our industrial equipment platforms are commonly used to support transformers, generators, HVAC equipment, control rooms, robotics systems, electrical cabinets, process equipment, and material handling operations. Each platform is custom-engineered to meet your load requirements, safety standards, and access needs.
What Is an Equipment Platform?
An equipment platform is a custom steel support structure designed to elevate, support, or protect industrial, electrical, HVAC, production, and material handling equipment. Engineered around your specific equipment, load requirements, and facility layout, these self-supporting structures provide a stable foundation while helping maximize valuable floor space and improve operational efficiency.
Equipment platforms can be designed with custom bolting points for generators, HVAC handlers, pumps, motors, tanks, transformers, switchgear, control cabinets, robotics controllers, and other critical equipment. Whether you need to protect equipment from forklift traffic, elevate systems above flood-prone areas, improve maintenance access, or support production processes, KABTech can design a custom platform solution tailored to your application.
Custom Equipment Platforms for Industrial Facilities
KABTech’s equipment platforms are designed to be self-supporting, independent structures specifically engineered to hold your equipment.
Elevating your equipment on specially constructed platforms has many advantages. These custom equipment platforms can raise sensitive electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and control cabinets above flood zones, seismic areas, production zones, and active work areas.
Common Uses for Equipment Platforms
Elevating transformers, switchgear, and control cabinets
Supporting generators or HVAC handlers
Elevating gravity-fed production processes
Protecting robotics controllers and electrical cabinets
Preventing forklift-related equipment damage
Creating safe maintenance access
Supporting cold rooms and drive-in freezers
Supporting indoor or outdoor control rooms

Benefits of KABTech Equipment Platforms
Elevating your equipment on specially constructed platforms has many specific advantages.
Here’s what makes an equipment platform such a smart investment:
Equipment platforms help protect sensitive equipment from forklift traffic, production activity, flooding, and other facility risks.
Platforms provide safe access for routine inspections, cleaning, maintenance, and repairs.
Properly designed access systems help reduce the need for ladders or fall prevention harnesses during routine work.
Equipment platforms can elevate production equipment, tanks, pumps, motors, conveyors, and gravity-fed systems.
Each platform is custom-designed around your layout, load requirements, access needs, and equipment attachment points.
Equipment Platform Safety Features & Options
Custom-designed equipment platforms have any safety features incorporated in the design and meet or exceed OSHA, ASTM & AISC guideline specifications.
- Permanently mounted handrail
- Kick plates to prevent material from being dropped over the side
- Locking swing or sliding gates
- Locking gates on stairs and cage ladders
- Open bar grating or non-slip deck surfaces
- OSHA-compliant catwalks, stairs, cage ladders, ship’s ladders, and crossovers
What is the Live Load and Dead Load of an Equipment Platform?
In simple terms, the Design Live Load (DLL) refers to the critical factor that the engineer uses in designing the platform to perform within the required specification. The Live Load is measured in pounds per square foot. The live load includes any equipment, stored materials, containers, and personnel that will be on the platform during normal daily use.
Engineers will take into consideration the live load factor and how the platform will be used, such as powered equipment moving pallets around on the platform, to determine the max load capacity.
The dead load of a platform refers to the total weight of the structure and includes all the necessary platform parts, such as columns, beams, flooring, stairs, landings, and hardware.
The dead load is a set value and will not fluctuate during platform use.
Designers use both dead load and live load in calculating the integral safety of each custom platform.
It is important to specify how the platform will be used and what maximum amount of material will be placed on the unit regularly when requesting a quote.
Not sure what load rating you need?
Our engineering team can help determine the proper live load, dead load, and structural requirements for your project.
Do Equipment Platforms Require Concrete Footings?
All of our standard platforms and mezzanines are designed to be supported by a standard 6” concrete warehouse slab, and in most cases do not need additional footings added.
KAB Tech uses all steel construction with hot dip galvanized, enamel, or powder-coated components with long life and maximum reliability in mind. We do not substitute quality for inferior plastic handrail, kick plates, or FRP structures.
Our specially designed and engineered equipment platforms can be incorporated with OSHA-compliant catwalks, stairs, cage ladders, ship’s ladders, and crossovers. Custom-designed platforms provide access to Landings and convenient equipment service locations for performing inspections, cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on holding tanks, pumps, and motors, as well as platforms for material handling, such as powders and liquids for production tasks.
